I've just published my first novel "To the Rhythm of the Moon" with Lulu - on the recommendation of a friend who has published several books with them. I have received the paperback and am impressed by it’s quality. I paid ONLY for the printing (initial run of 15!) having used Lulu’s formatting tools to do the cover & layout myself. I have also published a hardcover version – available only through Lulu (to keep the cost within reason). I hope to receive them soon and that the hardcover will be as well done as the paperback.

For a small fee, the book is listed on Amazon & E-bay through Lulu. I'm trying to figure out how to make it available to bookstores - it's early days yet, but so far, so good.

From what I can tell, Lulu is about as good a print-on-deamand experience as most people can find. That isn't a high compliment, but Io have heard very few complaints about Lulu.

As a one time author with a disasterous experience I am contemplating Lulu so I have control over my work. What is the thought of Lulu as a whole?

It kills me that so many people put so much weight in hardbacks. Tim O'Brien, a fantastic author prints everything in paperback (at least I've never seen any of his books in hardback), and he is one of the best. I hope a trend to paperback brings out many more great writers.
