People are Stealing My Articles

Published on 1/2/2011 by in Freelance

That’s right, people steal my articles. They do it all the time. They rerun my work on their own sites without permission and often without attribution. I’m not going to name names because it isn’t worth it. I can tell you though that one of the largest writing sites on the Internet (not a blog)

One Writer’s Experiences with Demand Studios

Published on 11/19/2010 by in Freelance

Suzannah over at Write it Sideways has a very good article about Demand Studios (my former sponsor) discussing whether it is a scam or legitimate freelancing. Her opinion is similar to mine. Demand Studios is not a scam. The worst they can be accused of is a bit of hyperbole in their advertising and PR,

Shennandoah Diaz over at The Big Bad Book Blog has a nice article on How to Write a Nonfiction Book Proposal. The process for non-fiction book proposals is much different from fiction submissions, and the market is much more lucrative so it is definitely worth a look. Five Things Remember When You Respond to an Online Job Ad

Published on 7/26/2010 by in Freelance

If you are applying for a writing job (or for any job really) you want the person who reads your response to believe that you are an intelligent, professional candidate who knows how to write. Write in complete sentences and leave out the Twitspeak (OMG!).

Business Plans, Social Media Plans and Planning for the Slow Times

Published on 6/28/2010 by in Freelance

Most freelancers go through lean times on occasion. I just came through one myself and I can testify that Dan’s ideas are spot on, especially his advice to “put money aside each month” and “don’t put all of your eggs in one basket”.

Stock Photos, Credibility and the Like Button

Published on 6/23/2010 by in Freelance

Facebook used to have a dislike button but for some reason they eliminated it. I guess there was just too much dislike and not enough like. The movers and shakers on Facebook only want to know how much they are liked, not how much they are disliked. I understand that desire.

Excellent Hyperbole, Twitter Death and Processing Collections

Published on 6/21/2010 by in Freelance

Excellent hyperbole I’m a big fan of problogger.net (as are a couple hundred thousand other people) but one recent post had me rolling my eyes. I’m not saying that Celestine Chua’s 8 Habits of Highly Excellent Bloggers is entirely wrong, just that it is entirely impossible. It is advice that looks good on the surface,
