Yes, Brenda Uelands book is the best, or at least in my opinion, the most inspiring. I quote from ‘If You Want to Write’ on a regular basis. Get it. I would also get Natalie Goldbergs ‘Writing Down the Bones’ I have read them all. These are the two best.

I find the best and most effective way of writing or getting over a creative block is if you write something about what you know and what you experienced. It’s always easier to elaborate and express yourself. The output would be more honest or the very least project a little of yourself in it, in my opinion.

Nice article. I agree writing is hard work and honesty is important. But you can’t write what you don’t know. And you can’t express an unknown self. It wasn’t until I had a right brain awakening that I began to write powerful, therapeutic peotry. Tapping within the right brain is how true self expression emerges.

Great tips here, but I think that the comments on them were actually a bit more inspiring than the entry itself. Mostly because it was able to inspire people so much. Words are amazing, aren’t they?

This is the first time I’ve ever read a page like this.
I’m from Argentina but English is my second language. I’ve always
dreamed of becoming a writer, don’t know if in “this” life or another.
Ther is something I know now. I’ll be able to get it, after reading your
suggestions and the replies I feel I’m not alone. Thanks for being my booster.

The AH is indeed good, and I agree with the point about Webster’s definitions.

Another very good dictionary is the Chambers 9th ed. I often reach for this one first.
