Blogging as a Publishing Business: Academic Blogs
June 26, 2007 by J.C. Hewitt
These blogs are growing in popularity. They are created by students or professors to publish academic papers, opinions and research findings. The goal is to foster communication about the given subject within the academic community. A secondary goal is to raise the profile of the author or authors within the community. These blogs are aimed at small audiences of and are rarely commercial in nature.
One of the advantages of this type of blogging is that academic professionals can often bypass the expense and submission process behind academic journals and publish their information directly. Blogging can also dramatically speed up the process of peer review, allowing other academic professionals to post their comments and to see what other comments have been posted. Rhetorica.net has an excellent list of professors who blog.
