Joe is such a universal name that it can be anyone like 'Your common Joe'. Even with 'Gimme a cup of Joe' so Joe is a symbol of the American male in all reality. Not to mention one of my favorite names since it was my grandfathers name too. So the use of the name 'Joe' is in my opinion, the candidates trying to address each individual male in America personally. Like I said, that's my opinion anyway.

At a time when the political climate is so convoluted and hard to maneuver, I appreciate having someone like you to sort out these complicated matters. Thanks, John.

@ Allen

I don't believe Average Joe thinks bombing countries for entertainment is cool. I'm not even sure Joe Six Pack would think that, but he and I don't hang out, so I can't be sure.

The Joes actually hit Sweden as well (we don't call Joe Joe in Sweden but Svensson). Even though the impact of the US election is tiny here the Plumber story hit the newspapers front page. Amazing how it grabs your attention.

Another interesting tidbit about Joe the Plumber that I think is symbolic of 21st Century Republicanism: He is a military age male who thinks the war in Iraq was just and necessary, but has he volunteered to serve there? I have seen no report of anyone asking him and I think that if he had served then the news would be all over that (if not the Republican Party). The Average Joe is also a guy who thinks bombing countries for entertainment is cool as long as he isn't the one who has to get his hands dirty.
